Women Lawyers -- Prepare To Storm The Board!
On February 13, 2019 in partnership with the Women's Leadership Foundation, we will offer an innovative program designed to ready women attorney leaders for board service and examine how women lawyers can serve as a resource for companies seeking to improve corporate governance and increase shareholder value.
Women lawyers are uniquely positioned to take a seat at the boardroom table as corporate boards slowly start to seek greater diversity.
There is widespread agreement that board diversity leads to better governance, higher earnings, and increased corporate responsibility. Diversity of gender and ethnicity (as well as in other areas) have been shown by recent studies to help drive company performance.
Lawyers possess many of the core skills and intellectual qualities expected of an effective non-executive director, including judgment, integrity, independence, consensus building, and the ability to analyze and assimilate complex information, well as to manage risk and strategy. Contributing diversity and insight to boardroom debate and decision-making, lawyers offers skills and expertise that complement those of other directors and contribute to governance effectiveness.
