Gender Affirming Legal Services CLE Program

  • November 28, 2022
  • 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
  • Online via Zoom

Registration

The CWBA is partnering with Bread & Roses Legal Center and The People's Law Office LLC for a CLE centering the voices of trans lawyers, legal workers, and community members. Together we will learn how to disrupt the harm the legal system causes transgender people and affirm transgender people seeking legal services.

This CLE isn't just about pronouns and forms, though we will discuss those topics. Instead we are taking a deep dive into what it means to advocate zealously for transgender clients. The content will apply to all practice areas, and will be relevant to public policy, criminal defense, civil rights, family, and probate matters.

Topics will include:

  • Language and etiquette
  • Understanding intersectional trans identities
  • Confidentiality considerations
  • Client counseling
  • Advocacy and protective measures for trans clients currently, soon to be, or facing incarceration
  • Leveraging Colorado anti-discrimination laws and the Rules of Professional Conduct to protect trans clients
  • Navigating transphobia from law enforcement, courts, or opposing counsel
  • Anti-trans legal strategies

Presenter:

Z Williams, Director of Client Support at Bread and Roses Legal Center. They are a well-known activist, advocate, and movement lawyer.

The program is free and virtual -- please RSVP to receive the Zoom link.

2 general, 2 EDI credits, including 1 Ethics credit requested
