Nina Y. Wang appointed as first female Asian Pacific American magistrate judge in Tenth Circuit

February 12, 2015 12:47 PM | Kim Sporrer, APR (Administrator)
DENVER, February 9, 2015 – The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Colorado (APABA Colorado) is pleased to announce that, after unanimous nomination by the Judges of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, Nina Wang has become a magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.

“Magistrate Judge Wang is the first female Asian Pacific American judge in the 10th Circuit, and the fourth female APA federal magistrate judge in the country. This is a milestone for the Colorado legal community, as well as the Asian Pacific American bar, said Andrea Wang, President of APABA Colorado. Kenzo Kawanabe, Past President of the APABA Colorado, stated: “Magistrate Judge Wang embodies an inspiring combination of high intellect, strong work ethic, and commitment to justice. From her days at Harvard Law School through her IP litigation practice at a national law firm, Nina Wang has been one of the best. But she also has a unique understanding of, and commitment to, the Rule of Law. She never forgets her immigrant parents and their story in our justice system, and she will work to ensure that our system is just. We are fortunate to have her on the bench.”

Magistrate Judge Nina Wang has previously served as an attorney in private practice, Assistant United States Attorney, and clerk for the Honorable Peter J. Messitte of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Her skill and leadership have been recognized with many accolades, including the Denver Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s Best Lawyers Under 40. She co-founded the Colorado Pro Bono Patent Initiative and is a Past President of APABA Colorado.

Magistrate Judge Wang took the oath of office in an informal investiture on February 9, 2015. A formal investiture ceremony will be held on April 10, 2015. Magistrate Judge Wang will chamber in the Byron Rogers U.S. Courthouse in Denver.
