COMMITTEES

Through the work of its committees, the CWBA is committed to advancing women in the legal profession and promoting the welfare of all women.

By joining a CWBA committee and participating in this rewarding work, you will find leadership opportunities and a network for business development and camaraderie.

The following are brief descriptions of our Committees and contact information for Committee Co-Chairs.  If you are interested in learning more or are ready to become involved, please contact the Committee Co-Chairs. You can access their contact information via the membership directory. (Members must login to the website to see full contact information in the directory.) New members are welcome to join committees and attend meetings at any time of the year.

NOTE: We have reorganized and "reimagined" our committee structure for the new year starting in June 2025. Click here to read about the new committees

Check our events calendar for upcoming meetings and get involved!

ANNUAL CONVENTION COMMITTEE

The Convention Committee is responsible for organizing and executing the CWBA’s annual Convention typically held in May, ensuring an exciting, educational, and well-attended event. The Committee secures nationally recognized speakers, develops engaging and diverse programming, and arranges entertainment. Committee members will also be engaged in securing sponsorships and swag donations for the event.

Join this Committee if you are looking for a lively group of creative event planners who have formed a wonderful community that puts on an amazing Convention each year!

The newly envisioned Bench Builders Committee holds monthly meetings to identify opportunities for diversification of the bench and to create pipelines for members to become judicial officers. This Committee will also continue to conduct due diligence on judicial finalists and advise the Governor’s Office on which candidates best represent the important values of experience, reputation for fairness and integrity, and treatment of women, people of color and/or historically marginalized groups, amongst others. The committee also is responsible for planning the CWBA's Annual Judicial Reception.

Join this Committee if you are passionate about improving the composition of Colorado’s judiciary!

The Committee develops strategies to attract and retain members. The Committee also oversees all CWBA mentoring programs.

EMPOW"HER"MENT AND PUBLIS"HER"S COMMITTEE

The Professional Advancement Committee AND Publications & History Committee have been combined and reimagined, and together they make up the new EmpowHERment and PublisHERs Committee. We are hoping to capitalize on the amazing work the Professional Advancement Committee does nominating outstanding women in our community by publishing the efforts in our blog!

The EmpowHERment and PublisHERs Committee does two very important things: identifying deserving CWBA members, organizations, and/or programs to submit as nominees for consideration for local and national awards, and amplifying the voices and accomplishments of our community members on the award-winning blog, The 1891. Committee members strategically identify fresh content and potential authors, as well as edit and even write articles and blog posts. The Committee prioritizes showcasing diverse authors and views. In addition, the committee vets nominees for the Annual Mary Lathrop Trailblazer Award and organizes the reception for the Mary Lathrop Award recipient at Convention each year. The Committee will also build a speaker database of honorees and featured blog spotlights. The Committee will work with the Officer of Communications on publicizing efforts, publications, and award winners.

Join this Committee if you are interested in highlighting amazing members of our legal community through award nominations and/or blog posts, or if you have other ideas of how the CWBA can increase its exposure across other platforms!

Co-Chairs:
Katherine Carroll and Hon. Colleen Clark

Meetings typically held monthly via Zoom on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Noon.

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION & TRAINING COMMITTEE

The newly created Inclusive Education and Training Committee fosters professional development and lifelong learning within the CWBA community, focusing on advancing women in the legal profession. The Committee develops and delivers high-quality CLE programs that promote DEI, address current news and hot topics, or otherwise provide tools to navigate the profession.

Join this Committee if you have ideas on how we can effectively educate our legal community on the important issues we are facing!

Co-Chairs:
Ellen Blatt and Leanna Gavin

Meetings typically held monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m..

POLICY ACTION COMMITTEE

The Policy Action Committee monitors national, state, and local legislation affecting women and children, working closely with CWBA’s contracted lobbyists and our members to advocate for mission-aligned policies. This Committee also provides input on proposed legislation that is in line with CWBA’s legislative agenda, and engages in stakeholdering on behalf of the CWBA on bills working their way through the legislature. This Committee also looks for opportunities for amicus brief sign-ons, and opportunities for other policy action!

Join this Committee if you want to learn about the Colorado legislative process, if you are interested in drafting amicus briefs on issues important to the CWBA, or if you are passionate about the improvement of the legal framework we are subject to!

Co-Chairs:
Morgan Carroll and
Iris Halpern

Meetings typically held monthly on the first Monday of the month at Noon.
