UPCOMING EVENTS
The Inclusive Education and Training Committee (formerly Programs Committee) typically meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month over Zoom (or in person).
The Inclusive Education and Training Committee is dedicated to fostering a culture of lifelong learning and professional development within the Colorado legal community with the lens of advancing women as leaders in the law. Through innovative and inclusive training programs, this committee will develop and deliver high-quality continuing legal education (CLE) opportunities that address the evolving needs of women legal professionals. The committee’s mission is to: design and implement CLE programs that reflect diverse perspectives, promote equity, and ensure accessibility for all members; highlight emerging trends and critical topics in the legal profession, including technology, diversity, and leadership development; and partner with law firms, legal organizations, and community groups to provide collaborative and impactful learning experiences. The Committee will be charged with bringing CLE programming to members consistently throughout the year (at least one per quarter). The Committee will work with the Officer of Professional Development on creating spaces for dialogue, growth, and empowerment. The co-chairs may also work closely with the Officer of Community Action and Advocacy to develop and implement community training opportunities.
For more information about this committee or the next committee meeting, please contact the Committee Co-Chairs Ellen Blatt and Leanna Gavin.
The Policy Action Committee typically meets the first Monday of the month at Noon. New members always welcome!
For more information, contact our Policy Action Committee Co-Chairs Morgan Carroll and Iris Halpern.
This committee typically meets the second Tuesday of each month at Noon unless there is a necessary schedule change. All members welcome to attend at any time!
The MembHERship and Mentorship Committee is the recruitment arm, welcoming committee, and mentoring development leaders of the CWBA. The Committee’s goal is to develop ways to increase membership (new and renewals), increase member participation (on committees, by attending events, etc.), and create and improve structures to inclusively welcome and engage new members. This Committee also manages the CWBA’s LIFT! mentoring program. It also works with law student members and liaisons to CU and DU Law to increase ties between women attorneys and law students with the goal of maintaining women in the organization through the transition from law school to practice. This Committee will have several fun event and networking planning opportunities throughout the year - to include the summer social and winter holiday party. The Committee will work with the Officer of Partnership and Development on growth opportunities for membership; on sponsorship opportunities for all membership events; and on sponsorship, publicity, and growth opportunities for the mentoring program.
For more information, contact MembHERship and Mentorship Committee Co-Chairs Kylie Ngu and Kara Chrobak.
When we talk about public service, when we talk about stepping up to lead—it's not just about the campaign. It's about the people, it's about the vision, it's about believing that we can create change. And that starts right here, with what it truly means to run for office. With knowledge, with preparation, with understanding professional and ethical considerations, with why it is so important for women and people of diverse backgrounds to pursue public office.
So whether you're looking for a roadmap in our basics course of why run, or a deeper dive into strategies for success in our second workshop paths to victory, what matters is that you feel empowered, that you are ready, that you know you’ve got the tools to make a difference.
Because at the end of the day, leadership is about stepping up, showing up, and being ready to serve. And if you're ready to take that step, this series is here to help you do just that.
The Path to Public Office Series will culminate with inspiration from The Faces of Change, a panel of public officers who have successfully endured the campaign and won the ballot ready to provide insights and wisdom to those ready to become a candidate.
Join us July 14th to kick off our Path to Public Office Series with Morgan Carroll, former Colorado Senate President and Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party. She will be breaking down what it takes to become a candidate for office, where to find resources to begin a campaign. In 101: Why run for office? - A Candidate’s Roadmap.
Be sure to save the dates for the next two programs in this series:

Start reading and plan to join us for The 1891 Book Club. Be part of our discussion led by CWBA EmpowHERment and PublisHERs Committee Member Bethany Reece. The next session of our book club will be a special in-person discussion as we read Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner.
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER | From the indie rock sensation known as Japanese Breakfast, an unforgettable memoir about family, food, grief, love, and growing up Korean American—“in losing her mother and cooking to bring her back to life, Zauner became herself” (NPR).
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother’s particular, high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother’s tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food. As she grew up, moving to the East Coast for college, finding work in the restaurant industry, and performing gigs with her fledgling band–and meeting the man who would become her husband–her Koreanness began to feel ever more distant, even as she found the life she wanted to live. It was her mother’s diagnosis of terminal cancer, when Michelle was twenty-five, that forced a reckoning with her identity and brought her to reclaim the gifts of taste, language, and history her mother had given her. Vivacious and plainspoken, lyrical and honest, Zauner’s voice is as radiantly alive on the page as it is onstage. Rich with intimate anecdotes that will resonate widely, and complete with family photos, Crying in H Mart is a book to cherish, share, and reread.
